We Are Still Here: Stitching Solidarity in the Face of Injustice

Hello, my lovely Rebels. So I know the topic might be a heavy one but I wanted to take a minute to talk about recent events.

If you’ve been feeling a bit wobbly lately, you’re not alone. The recent UK Supreme Court ruling, which defines “woman” under the Equality Act as strictly referring to biological sex, has sent ripples of hurt and fear through our community. This decision (my understanding of it, please correct me if I’m wrong) effectively excludes trans women from certain legal protections, despite them holding Gender Recognition Certificates.

As someone who identifies as gender non-conforming — genderfloral, if you will — and who pours their heart into every stitch at Dandy & Rebel, this ruling feels like a step backward. It’s a stark reminder that the fight for inclusivity and recognition is far from over.

But let me be clear: Dandy & Rebel stands firmly with our trans and non-binary siblings. Our atelier is, and always will be, a sanctuary for all identities. We believe in crafting garments that celebrate the full spectrum of gender expression, and we reject any definition that seeks to erase or diminish the lived experiences of trans individuals.

In response to this ruling, thousands have taken to the streets across the UK, voicing their dissent and demanding justice. These protests are a testament to the resilience and unity of our community. However, they also underscore the importance of safety and self-care during such turbulent times.

So, to all my fellow needlewitches, studio goblins, and velvet gremlins: take care of yourselves. Rest when you need to, reach out when you’re struggling, and remember that your existence is valid and powerful.

In solidarity and stitches, I stand proudly with you

Amber (they/them)

Velvet Gremlin. Studio Goblin. Proud Needlewitch.
