Signature Toddler Wear: My Love Affair with Dungarees (and Why You Might Want a Pair Too)
Ooh, hello again!
Let’s talk about one of my ultimate comfort pieces. The garment that says, “I’m here, I’m queer, and I’m probably carrying snacks.” Yep—it’s dungaree time.
Dungarees have quietly (or not so quietly) become one of my signature looks. I’ve got me-made ones, vintage ones, patched-up ones that have seen many a costume fitting, and a couple that definitely give “eccentric pibling who brings their own teabags.” I lovingly refer to them as my signature toddler wear — because let’s be real, I love an outfit that feels like I’m ready to make art, crawl under a table, or take a nap at any moment.
So Why Dungarees?
Because they’re freeing. They don’t cling to the wrong places. They don’t assume anything about your shape, your gender, or your vibe. They just are. Which, honestly, is kind of the dream when you’re neurodivergent and still figuring out what kind of presentation feels good on any given day.
Also… they have pockets. Actual usable ones. Enough said.
Making My Own (and Soon Yours Too!)
One of my favourite things is sewing dungarees that actually fit — whether it’s for myself or someone else. Off-the-rack pairs never seem to hit quite right on my body (especially with my proportions), so the power of making my own has been a game changer.
And here’s the exciting bit: I’ll soon be offering limited runs of handmade Dandy & Rebel dungarees for you to wear, live in, and cause a little chaos in. They’ll feature custom touches, sizable pockets (you know me), and a fit that doesn’t assume your gender or body shape.
I want them to feel like armour and playwear at the same time — whether you’re strutting through town or nesting in a fabric pile.
Style, but Make It Silly
One of the biggest compliments I’ve ever received was someone saying, “You look like you’re about to take over a magical forest and declare it a queer utopia.” And you know what? That’s the energy I’m bringing into every pair I make.
They’re not just clothes. They’re joy. They’re comfort. They’re rebellion you can run errands in.
Got thoughts on your dream pair of dungas? Want frilly straps? Velvet bibs? Secret embroidery? Tell me in the comments or drop me a message — I’m all ears (and full of fabric swatches).
Thanks for reading, you absolute treasure.
Love,
