Year Two - Historical Costume for Screen
Gentleman Jack
This was the module where my love of tailoring ramped up. I created a full costume from the skin out, based on Anne Lister’s ‘wedding’ suit from the television series Gentleman Jack. I had the chance to study the original garments at Cosprop in London with the costume’s tailor, Dan Ashworth, who was extremely generous with his time and advice, giving me a much deeper understanding of the construction. From there, I developed my interpretation, cutting, fitting, and finishing every element to industry standard. I’m especially proud of the pattern matching on the waistcoat pockets, which became a real turning point for me in trusting my eye and precision. This costume was all about translating research into reality, with a focus on fit, finish, and function.
